Eating with other people
Food is social. These make it easier.
At home with non-vegans
- Cook a shared base everyone eats — chilli, curry, pasta sauce — and let others add cheese or meat on their own plate.
- Most of our recipes are just good food. Nobody needs to be told they're vegan.
At someone else's house
- Tell them early, and keep it simple: "I don't eat meat, fish, dairy or eggs. Can I bring a dish to share?"
- Bringing a dish takes the pressure off the host.
Christmas
- Most of the plate is already vegan: roast potatoes in oil, veg, stuffing (check it), cranberry sauce.
- Ask for the potatoes to be roasted in oil, not goose or beef fat.
- Bring your own main, or a vegan gravy everyone can use.
If someone asks why
You don't owe anyone a debate. Short and kind works: "It's just how I eat now." If they're curious, send them this site.
